-
- Okay, AppleNet is just a BBS Program, there is no network code in AppleNet.
- Metal is a BBS Language, similar to ACOS, but much faster and better, IMHO. The
- BBS Program that is most widely used under ACOS is GBBS, which has no net code
- involved, although you can various networks, such as FidoNet (but nasty code),
- OggNET (Which was once a semi-large network, but is now down to like 15 nodes),
- TeamNet (Which code I haven't seen) and IIneNet (which code I haven't seen).
-
- As for Metal, the Future Vision BBS Package runs under this language, and does
- have a great network structure, and is about to hit the 50 node mark. All on
- Apple II Computers. You should start to see posts coming from the *.fvnet.org
- domain, which is formed from the new gateway that is under development. This
- is just another 50+ nodes (expected) by the time FutureNet Phase II goes into
- effect. Beta testing will come soon, but it may be a few months before we get
- a working version in. FutureNet, which I am on, has some very nice features,
- such as Networking Email, Conferences, and FileMail. System Updates also
- are automatically sent through the network. At this point in time, most
- Sysops call another FutureNet BBS to get their data, and it's all done
- automatically, but soon, this will change with a direct Unix interface, sockets
- and all. I don't know if I should be saying this, but hell, why not... Just
- informing..
