  15.      I'll be buying a new  computer in ~2 months and have been looking
  16. at the A1200, but have  some questions (which I'm sure are in the FAQ,
  17. but I can't seem to find one):

  19. 1. Software. What I'm looking for (I've omitted the software I need
  20.    and have found): 
  21.     A. Database applications. In example: Borland's Paradox SE
  22.        (a stripped down version of Paradox (or anything similar)).
  23.     B. Spreadsheet applications. In example: Lotus 1-2-3 personal 
  24.        (a stripped down version of 1-2-3 (again, anything similar)).
  25.     C. Math applications, like MatchCad, Maple or Derive.
  26.     D. Lisp programming apps, like Xlisp.
  27.     E. A decent C compiler.
  28.     F. Networking apps, like NSCA or KA9Q
  29.     G. Xwindows. Can I port my X apps? Any PD or shareware emulators?

  31. 2. Hardware
  32.     A. Ethernet. I want to use this in a lab that's running thin coax.
  33.        Can I use a "parallel port -> ethernet card-in-a-mini-case ->
  34.        coax" adaptor?
  35.     B. Overall quality of C= stuff. Are you happy with it?
  36.     C. Floppy drives. I need to read/write MS-DOS/UNIX 1.44m floppies.
  37.     D. Monitors. What's best for the Amiga?
  38.     E. RAM. What is "fast" RAM?
  39. 3. Other
  40.     A. A recommendation of a good Amiga dealer.

  42.      I presently use [at  work] a 386 running MS-Windows (which, IMHO,
  43. is the most pathetic excuse for a "windowing" system I've ever used.).
  44. It crashes >3  times  a  week, can't download a file and run ANY other
  45. apps. smoothly at the  same  time, it can't run my x.400 email program
  46. and keep the NetWare  drivers  in memory, etc.. For me, MS-DOS cuts it
  47. on my Toshiba T1000SE, but I wouldn't use  [on my own desktop]  MS-Win 
  48. if someone paid me.
  49.      As for Macs,  I  like  them, but system 7.x is a little buggy and
  50. dollar-for-dollar the A1200 seems like the better deal.
  51.      Even if I can't get all the apps I want/need, I'll probably still 
  52. buy the A1200.

  60. PS: FYI: Microsoft came to my company two weeks ago and showed us 
  61. "Windows NT". It crashes ever better than MSWin 3.1.
