  19. pnmtops works fine on: post 1.7, ghostscript, HP Laserjet III,
  20. Apple Laserwriter, Pacific Page XL for HP LJ III, Ultrix Display
  21. Postscript tool (dxpsview) and OpenWindows pageview. It is accepted
  22. by several UNIX postscript handling tools I have and conforms fully
  23. to the Encapsulated Postscript Format (EPSF) from Adobe. I can also
  24. include pnmtops generated output into TeX with dvips.

  26. It isn't optimal regarding file size but for most situations it is
  27. the fastest way since the readhexstring operator used is usually
  28. executed much faster than any decompression routine written in postscript.
