- It sounds plausible; many people send me comments stating that
- their modem is extremely sensitive. Basically, here is what I did:
-
- Replaced the entire phone line at 4am 8 days ago. Removed one
- splice and two splits.
-
- Replaced 2 year old serial cable with brand new serial cable.
-
- Tested it on 5 different modems.
-
-
- My results suggest that while each had some obvious defects, the
- third Supra I received did not have 'defects' per se, but just had problems
- that could be related to flakiness or sensitivity, as my other modems had
- similar problems occasionally and not all the time, like the Supra.
- However, today after not using the Supra for one week, I have had
- two successful connections (incoming). Outgoing calls and faxes have always
- been superior to my other 14.4k modems. Incoming FAX has not been tested yet
- but will be due to a suggestion from someone with supra experience.
-
- Now, if this third one follows the same path as the first two, I
- should begin to notice problems by tomorrow. However, if it doesn't, then
- I will have to wait until next week as it will be down for the week anyway.
- We will see what happens; Supra said they would call my BBS, hopefully
- today, to try and connect. The question is now whether they will get the
- auto-detect and whether they will get text or trash.

- Thanks Gwen. Like I said, I had faith in #3. At least it answers the phone now.
