- Close... but no cigar.
-
- Movies are -projected- at 24 fps... but the -frame rate- is doubled (or
- tripled) to 48 or 72 _flickers_ per second.
-
- (they use multibladed shutters, or shutters that rotate faster than one
- flicker per frame).
-
- A movie shown with only one flicker per frame (24 flickers and frames per
- second) -does- noticably flicker for most people.
-
- The number of people who can detect flicker drops radically at around 48
- flickers per second.
-
- At 60 flickers per second virtually no one can detect flicker.
-
- David Trumbell's "ShowScan" system (a truly fine projections system, that
- must be seen to be believed), uses 70mm film (taken and projected) at 60
- frames per second (one flicker per frame :) ). It's like watching the real
- world...it's so crisp and bright... pity it isn't used commercially -- All
- those people who spend way too much money on video equipment for the home
- would be sad.
