- You might try a small partition size (say 1M) and see how that works first.
- If memory serves correctly, the 4010 will default to 306 Cyl, 2 Heads,
- Sectors per track if it is not initialized with drive geometry. Incidentally,
- I have a 4070 which is exhibiting the same conditions of your 4010. It
- pretends to write to the disk, but not read from it.

-
- Three years ago, I owned an IVS Trumpcard and a Maxtor XT-1140 (120M) drive.
- The software (TCUtils) that came with the Trumpcard worked excellently with
- the Adaptec (ACB 4010). Today, I have the same disk on my 2091. Since the
- disk was already formatted, I never saw a need to try formatting with my
- 2091.
-
- I also own a 2090 controller. I can assure you it's nearly impossible to get
- this controller to format an Adaptec, since it does not support SCSI direct.
- I does work nicely, however, with the disk after the media has been low-level
- formatted.
-
- I would, at the very least, expect your 500XP to be able to use the disk
- once it has been low-level formatted. Since you say your software directly
- supports the Adaptec, I would consider suspect two things:
- 1. Your Adaptec might have been damaged (similar to mine).
- 2. Your 10M drive is old, dead, and sucks.
-
- I recommend (if its possible) trying this equipment out on a Sun and possibly
- swapping the drive and/or Adaptec.
