- L-O people...
-
- I'm in the market for a video set-up to compliment my 4000. It's been
- a while since I've been in the business, so I'm a bit out of date on
- my knowledge...
-
- What I'm looking for is a set-up so I can record animations and graphics
- for the 4000, and maintain as much picture fidelity as possible. The
- formats I'm considering are either S-VHS or Hi8 (both by Sony). The
- Hi8 deck is about $1600 and the S-VHS about $1000. The guy I spoke to
- said Sony is releasing a new Hi8 deck at Winter CES next week for about
- $1000.
-
- I'm looking for information compaing the 2 formats.. I'm pretty sure Hi8
- is better both in terms of technology & picture quality, but S-VHS is more
- useful (mainly because you can degrade to VHS when making a distribution
- copy) I might get a combination of each, such as 2 Hi8's for editing, and
- an SVHS for editing/final distribution recording. If I stay in the SONY
- line, it should be possible to integrate the 2 foreign formats, righ?
-
- Questions:
- Any recommendations for decks/controllers? (Brands, model #'s, prices)
- Any recommendations for stores? I'm in Rochester, NY and haven't found
- a non-consumer oriented store yet.
- Are there any benefits when using a S-VIDEO genlock vs. composite genlock
- in terms of ..practical.. recording quality? A buddy of mine uses a
- supergen and has no complaints about it.
- How is DCTV at digitizing a still S-VHS or Hi8 image? Is there a S-VIDEO
- version of it yet? Would it make a difference?
- What are some good magazines/resources for hard info & reviews?
- What's the difference between a CTRL-S and CTRL-L controller? Can you
- have both types of machines in an edit setup? Which is better/newer
- /"the standard"/most widely used?
-
- I'm looking at around a total cost around $10,000 for everything (3 decks,
- monitors, camcorders and/or cameras, possibly DCTV, and a flatbed scanner).
-
- Thanks for the help,
- Daniel C. Richardson
