- If the station in question is KBHK, broadcast channel 44, cable channel
- 12, then I have news for you. You have been seeing Babylon 5 clips but
- they have been calling it Deep Space Nine.
-
- KBHK has been running a long spot where they say they're going to be a
- great station when they grow up and try to prove it by showing their
- line-up of new series including: Time Trax, Kung Fu, The Untouchables,
- and Deep Space Nine. They show a set of very fast clips from the shows
- to give the ad an MTV-ish sort of feel. But if you look at the clips
- closely they are clearly from Babylon 5! The recent Cinefantastique
- which covers B5 in great detail has pictures of two of the alien
- characters, DeLin and G'Kar, both of which are featured prominently in
- KBHK's ad. If you look at the clips in slow motion you can even catch
- a glimpse of the B5 station itself. All the shots with the lovely
- lensflare -- that's all LightWave animation! In fact the only clips
- that are really from DS9 show the spikey roundish space station
- (reminds me of K-7 somehow).
-
- I have heard that KBHK will probably carry B5, but they are not promoting
- it yet since it is only as a two-hour movie. They can sell a lot
- more advertising time on a series, so they want to plug them strongly.
- I won't try to speculate why they think it's a good idea to plug DS9,
- the flagship of their new line-up, with clips that will not even appear
- in the show -- which are, in fact, from a potential rival.
-
- Footnote: If you feel inclined to call the station about this, please
- be smooth. If B5 goes to series it will be a huge boost to the Amiga,
- so we want to let the station know that people are interested in B5, but
- not nasty people. We want them to think that NICE people want to see
- B5. Nice people who watch their ads and buy their sponsors products . . .
