- I've had similar problems on a client's machine, with a 68040 (either a card
- or in an A-4000) and the JX-100 scanner software. The two machines are
- networked together, to share one large HD and be able to both render to the
- same directory. Only you try to scan something on the host machine and the
- net locks up, permanently freezing anything working through the net on
- either machine.
-
- In my discussions with ASDG, they blame both Commodore and Sharp.
- Apparently they have to turn off interrupts to achieve the baud rates
- required by the scanner. Yeah, right. Maybe on an unaccelerated machine,
- but no way would you have to go to that extreme on a 4000. And it's not
- that tough to find out if you're running with an '030 or '040 in the system
- and switch to a more system friendly algorithm.

-
- Actually, their hardwired install program doesn't work well in today's
- machines either, but they've apparently fixed that; at least to the extent
- that you can get a new one if you ask them for it. For now we've installed
- the software on the 2000, and load it through the net onto the 4000 where we
- run the scanner, so as not to interfere with the 2000 (the host machine of
- the network). Once we get SCSI for the 4000 and move the drive over, we'll
- have to switch things back around...
