  18. That "something" that happened may have been a static hit.  When this
  19. happened to me, I had the exact opposite problem -- that is, the port could
  20. send but not receive.  Replacing the "rs232 line receiver" chip fixed mine.

  22. Perhaps your "rs232 line driver" (part number 1488) is fried.  Radio shack
  23. has these for $1.29 (cat no. 276-2520), so you might as well give it a shot.
