  11. I've got a problem that is driving me nuts - may be one of you will be
  12. kind enough to point out the solution.  I've got a 3B1 with Combo-board
  13. (2 ports + 2MB).

  15. Up 'til about three days ago I was receiving and sending my UUCP
  16. traffic through one Combo-board port (tty001). Then something
  17. happened an now the port is failing - but only on the outgoing side.
  18.  
  19. When I try to access the port directly (cu -ltty001 dir) or try to dial
  20. out. I get a message that the port is not available. When I try "setgetty 1"
  21. the command hangs. When a getty is spawned against the port, it immediately
  22. goes to sleep. But what's interesting is that if access the port via the
  23. modem, the getty awakes and provides me with a login prompt, at which I
  24. can login and do whatever.

  26. Here's what I've tried to date:

  28.     * reboot the system                (still broke)
  29.     * power cycle the system and the modem      (still broke)
  30.     * test the modem and cable on a PC7300      (test ok)
  31.     * remove and reinstall Combo-board software (still broke)
  32.     * reseat the Combo-board                    (still broke)

  34. I've fiddled and farted around with this thing and am not making any
  35. progress. It "feels" like a software problem.
  36.  
  37. The one thing I'd like to do is test the Combo-card, but the
  38. diagnostic calls for a loop around plug to be installed at the port.
  39. I don't have the requirements for this plug.

  41. IF you have information leading to the resolution of this problem OR
  42. the requirements for the loop around plug, I'd REALLY appreciate your
  43. assistance.
