- Besides NCAR graphics, you might also consider using the modules that
- Jim Phillips wrote while at the University of Minnesota's Supercomputer
- Institute for Silicon Graphics' IRIS Explorer. They are available on
- swedishchef (SGI net-people know this machine). Here's some info:
-

- Cartog
- Author(s) : Jim Phillips (Minnesota Supercomputer Institute)
-
- Description:
- This directory holds a number of Explorer modules
- written by Jim Phillips which are useful in visualizing
- any data that has to do with the earth.
-
- WorldMap: Reads the CIA map database and sends it
- along as a pyramid lattice. We have also added a map
- for plate boundaries. (Useful for Geology and
- Geophysics.)
-
- Projector: Takes lattices and pyramids and warps them
- onto a number of map projections including mercator,
- Globe and many others.
-
- Bendbox: Creates a bounding box of a size specified by
- the user. Also displays tickmarks and ticklines.
-
- Elevation: Reads an elevation file for the Earth and
- sends it along to be displaced and rendered.
-
- SimpleSphere: Draws a sphere at a specified size.
- Used so that the backside of a map isn't seen when
- displayed on a sphere.
-
- All of the modules come with example maps which
- will also be distributed.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
-
-
- If you have any SGI's, I'm sure you will find this incredibly useful
- for what you want to do. If anybody would like, I can send them a
- sample image, since it does take a little work to get to know Explorer
- well.
-
- >Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
-
- I feel greatly appreciated automatically then.
-
- Enjoy!
