-
- A review appears on page 66 of the November 16, 1992 issue of Open Systems Today
- titled "SLIP Solutions for Macintoshes", by Jason Levitt. The article says that
- PPP will be considered in an upcoming issue, but I don't have newer OSTs handy.
- If I find the PPP article, I'll follow up.
-
- There's a summay inset that lists three SLIP products:
-
- VersaTilities 1.0 from Synergy Software, 2457 Perkiomen Ave., Reading PA 19606
- 215-779-0522, D2296@applelink.apple.com; $99.
-
- MacSLIP 1.01 from TriSoft, 1825 E. 38-1/2 St., Austin TX 78722, 800-531-5170,
- 512-472-0744, info@hydepark.com; $49.95.
-
- NCSA/BYU Telnet 2.5B from Telnet Group, Brigham Young University, 2228 TMCB,
- Provo UT 84602-1044, 801-378-3027, telnet@byu.edu; free.
-
- Minimum config: MacPlus w/4Meg, 2400b modem; 9600b modem needed for reasonable
- throughput; system 6.0.7 or 7.x and MacTCP 1.1.x; tested on PowerBook 170 4M
- and Telebit QBlazer, sys 7.0.1 and MacTCP 1.1.1.
-
- Executive Summary: "These three SLIP Packages let Macintoshes attach to a
- TCP/IP network with a modem instead of an Ethernet card. VersaTilities and
- MacSLIP provide the same SLIP functionality, but VersaTilities also includes
- and ftp server, a telnet server, and a better dial script package. The NCSA/
- BYU Telnet binary and source code are free. However, the SLIP facility is not
- MacTCP-based, so it cannot be used with third-party TCP/IP programs."
