- Is it possible to have a 386 (or so) boot PCNFS from a Sun diskless in
- the same sort of way (RARP, TFTP, bootparamd) that one boots a diskless
- Sun? In particular, the man page for boot mentions that one can create
- a TFTP file with [iphex].PCNFS for PCNFS, but doesn't give any details.
-
- I will have to buy or get a boot ROM to stick on the network card,
- presumably. I presume that the boot ROM will have to be tailored to
- both PCNFS and the card I get. Any details about this?
-
- What do I put in /tftpboot/[iphex].PCNFS?
-
- I haven't checked the PCNFS docs because I want to know that it will
- work BEFORE I buy PCNFS. The whole idea is to save money by not getting
- any sort of disks at all. I can borrow a PC with floppies from a friend
- to set it all up, then boot diskless from then on. I can import new
- floppies by transfering them to tape at work. As a side benefit, I ought
- to be pretty much imune to Stoned-like virii (no boot sectors on PCNFS
- partitions).
