  14. I wonder if anyone might be able to shed some light on a strange
  15. problem I'm seeing.

  17. I've got about 100 Macs (variety of models) and a few PCs on my local
  18. network.  The local network consists of 3 zones, 1 ethernet and 2
  19. LocalTalk.  The ethernet is used for a few UNIX workstations, Mac mail
  20. and file servers, and as a local backbone for the 2 LocalTalk
  21. segments.  The LocalTalk segments each consist of 4 interconnected
  22. Farallon StarController hubs, and a Cayman GatorBox CS gateway.  The
  23. ethernet segment is connected through a cisco router and 57Kb
  24. dedicated line to the corporate network.

  26. In one of the 2 local LocalTalk segments I've got an SE/30 with 8 MB
  27. RAM running 7.0.1 + Tune-up 1.1.1, KeyServer 3.0.5 (50 clients), and
  28. Meeting Maker Server 1.5.  This machine is a dedicated
  29. KeyServer/Meeting Maker host, and I've enabled file sharing so that I
  30. can occasionally access the disk from remote for administrative
  31. purposes.

  33. I recently began using TrafficWatch II 1.0A to analyze network
  34. utilization, and I noticed that this SE/30 was sending a substantial
  35. number of packets to a nonexistent device in the same zone.  I can't
  36. resolve the recipient address to any device.  This mysterious device
  37. receives packets only from the SE/30, and never sends packets to the
  38. SE/30, or any other device.

  40. Upon closer inspection (using LocalPeek), I noticed that the packets
  41. being sent by the SE/30 to the mystery device consist entirely of
  42. lapRTS.
  43.  
  44. Does anyone have any insight into this strange anomaly?  Please e-mail
