  16. Historically, the 8086 LOCK prefix did nothing but raise the external
  17. lock signal. Hardware engineer's option whether that means anything.
  18. Since then the situation has become worse, as the list of circumstances
  19. in which it *doesn't* work has got longer. A botch job, I think....
