  11. Hi all,
  12.   I am repairing an IBM brand drive, and need a little help.  The drive
  13.   had Coke (tm) spilled on it while it was running, and fried the
  14.   controller board.  After dis-assembling the controller board (an
  15.   interesting experience), cleaning the burned areas, doing a little
  16.   solder work to fix burned traces, I've gotten the drive to spin up
  17.   and respond to commands.  I can read and write to sector 0.
  18.   I was ecstatic!  After all, this drive was presumed DOA.
  19.   But, after breathing life back into it, I find I have NO info about
  20.   the drive!  Without more info, I can't tell my computer enough about
  21.   it to make use of it.  Here is what I do know about it:

  23.   Vendor  : IBM
  24.   Product : 0661371    Rev : B O
  25.   ANSI version : 2
  26.   ECMA verion  : 0
  27.   ISO version  : 0
  28.   Capacity: 312Mb
  29.   Sector Size: 512 bytes
  30.   Last Sector: 625355
  31.   Supports Synchronous data transfers.
  32.   Supports Linked commands.
  33.   Device uses hard resets.
  34.  
  35.   This is a 3 1/2" drive.
  36.   You must issue the Start Unit ($1B) Command before the drive will
  37.   spin up.

  39.   While the Capacity is 312Mb, the calculated capacity is 305Mb... and
  40.   IBM considders this drive a 320Mb capacity drive!

  42.   I'm looking for any and all info on the drive.  Things like:
  43.   Number of cylinders.
  44.   Number of surfaces.
  45.   Number of sectors per track.
  46.   Access time.
  47.   Rotation speed.
  48.  
  49.   I've done a Mode Sense ($1A) on the drive to get the number of blocks
  50.   and block length.  Usually, this command gives Vendor Parameters as
  51.   well, one of which is the Geometry of the drive ($84)... However,
  52.   this parameter is not present.  The only Vendor Parameters present are:
  53.     $81 = Error Recovery Parameters
  54.     $82 = Disconnect/Reconnect Control
  55.     $87 = ?
  56.     $88 = ?
  57.     $80 = ?
  58.  
  59.   Also, there are some straps on the back of the drive that I can't
  60.   identify:

  64.   124 = SCSI ID
  65.     a = ?
  66.     b = ?

  68.   Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

  70.   Also, is there any place I could get a list of ALL the Vendor
  71.   Parameters for the Mode Sense?  I know of a few, but I'd really
  72.   like to know more...
