  13. Well, now that I blew chunks and let my US $1400 Exabyte EXB-8500ST get away ):
  14. I can still pick up a 3rd-party Exabyte 8mm 2.3 Gbyte drive from the same
  15. place (for only $100 less, *sigh*).

  17. The two units are a "Tecmar THS-2200" and a "Maynard MaynStream 2200HS+".
  18. The only difference between the two of them, as far as I know, is
  19.  
  20. - Tecmar is wider & fatter (i.e., power supply alongside tape unit inside box)
  21. - Maynard is longer & slimmer (i.e., power supply behind drive)
  22.   I have an 800 number for Maynard (-:
  23.  
  24. Is there any reason to pick one (Tecmar or Maynard) over the other?  Especially
  25. given that each costs the same and neither comes from the original manufacturer
  26. so things like "warranty" are equally questionable?  Not to mention the fact
  27. that they're all Exabyte drives under the skin, I assume ...
  28.  
  29. If they're all Exabyte drives under the hood, is this choice a coin flip?
  30. Let it come down to fatter and shorter vs. longer & slimmer esthetics?  (-:
