  14. I should mention that with the Improved HG (High-Grade) Sony 8mm tape
  15. (P6-120HGf), my Exabyte drive would often stop accepting the tape.  Sometimes
  16. I could fix this with a "reset" (pull the tape out, close the door onto the
  17. empty drive, push the eject button to pop the door back open).  But often I'd
  18. just have to power cycle the drive (I do this by pulling off the SCSI bus
  19. connector, turning the drive off, waiting 10 seconds, turning the drive back
  20. on, carefully plug the SCSI connector back in - note that in this procedure
  21. the drive power is *never* turned on while the drive is connected to the SCSI
  22. bus, since I'd guess the other devices on the bus would not like this).

  24. But a few months ago I upgraded my Exabyte to a drive with newer ROMs,
  25. and I haven't had any trouble since.
