-
- I've just purchased a TriGem TGstation SDT-200 (SPARCstation clone with an IPC
- motherboard - but with a 4/60 CPU )-: - housed inside a normal 4/60 pizza box).
-
- It came with an internal 207 Mbyte disk, a floppy drive and the normal Sony
- power supply (not sure what the rating is). I plan to add an external Exabyte
- EXB-8500ST drive and hopefully a Sony/Sun CD-ROM if I can find one cheap.
-
- With 2 planned boxes on the external SCSI bus, I'd like to find an internal
- 3.5" drive to complement the 207. I'm looking for as large a capacity as is
- possible, i.e. 1.05 Gbytes at a minimum.
-
- I saved a posting from last month with some helpful information, but would
- like to hear more. My priorities:
-
- - Capacity (larger the better)
-
- I remember seeing the recently-announced DEC DSP3160 as being a
- 1.6 Gbyte 3.5" drive, but that may have been unformatted and the
- formatted capacity may be 1.3 Gbytes. This is what I'm looking
- for, size-wise - but I'll go as low as those 1.05 Gbyte drives
- such as the (e.g.) Micropolis 2112.
-
- - Heat and power consumption
-
- I'm real interested in the new DEC DSP3160, for example, but that
- saved posting implied that DEC drives might run too hot heat-wise
- to be used as internal SPARCstation-1 variety pizza box drives.
- Any further info to the contrary or confirming this would be much
- appreciated. Information on heat output and power consumption for
- any drives you know about would be great, too.
-
- - Cost
-
- With only a SPARCstation-1 clone, speed of disk access isn't as
- important as keeping the cost down, since my piggy bank isn't very
- full/deep ... (-:
-
- Any relevant data/distributor info/street prices etc. greatly appreciated.
-
- I've had the machine almost a week now, and I'm still suffering with 8 Mb RAM
- and the solitary 207, and I'm eating up valuable phone charge time reading and
- posting without the big disk to set up my own Usenet site with ... )-:
-
- Thanks in advance,
