  10. Situation:  We have a DEClaser 2150 (actually, an upgraded 2100) Postscript
  11. printer running in "PS READY" mode (I don't know the proper names of the
  12. modes off-hand, so I'll just tell ya what's on the LCD) which is being
  13. accessed by a VAXcluster using the DECprint printing services.  This
  14. particular queue probably won't be seeing any file type other than ASCII,
  15. LN03 (from LaTeX), and Postscript.

  17. Problem:  When sending LN03 files to it, for example, the wait can be quite
  18. long while the document is being converted to Postscript.  Not acceptible.

  20. Possible Solution: In the Postscript booklet that came with the cartidge,
  21. there is a metion that the DEClaser's mode can be switched (PS READY ->
  22. 00 READY -> PS READY) via software escape codes.  So, I'm thinking we set
  23. the queue up as a "normal" printer (i.e. drop the DECprint printing
  24. services) and keep the printer in it's "00 READY" state to quickly handle
  25. ASCII and LN03 files (which we already know it does). Then, we create a
  26. form for the printer that contains the proper escape sequences whenever we
  27. want to send a Postscript file to it.

  29. Problem:  We don't have TFM to R so we don't know what the proper escape
  30. sequences are or if this will even work as advertised.
