- 1. Out of aproximately 750,000 readers of Info-Vax,
- aproximately 10 got the point that the item I sent:
-
- Can anyone E-Mail me the sources to Info-Vax?
-
- Was a joke.
-
- "Kevin Mitnick" was someone who used "social
- engineering" to con people into letting him get
- access to DEC's VMS source code.
-
- A simple example of this in real life is the
- prison inmate who fakes a fax ordering his own
- release. Because people don't check the rules
- and the wrong things get done.
-
- Three people thought it was hilarious. Two thought
- it was sick and the others played along with it.
-
-
- 2. At least three people asked for copies of the code
- to do UUENCODE and UUDECODE for VMS. At address
- "WSMR-SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL" is a UUDECODE.C and
- UUENCODE.C in the VAX-MISC directory. The files
- are less than 6K each.
-
- The last time I posted the UUCODE sources on here,
- I discovered they were for Turbo-C on the PC.
-
- These sources could be considered to be VAX
- specific, and as such would not be all that long.
- Perhaps less than 60 lines each. This should
- solve the problem of people needing these two
- pieces of code.
