  12. I confront a problem after a fatal fault of a VAX3800 ( power supply failed).
  13. The whole backplane unit has been replaced. When I try to boot the system,
  14. the audit server is started, all other third party softwares' license
  15. are successfully load, the last message on the console shows the VAX-VMS 
  16. license has been successfully loaded, and then the system hangs forever. 
  17. No activity is found in the disk i/o. 
  18. But I can boot the system into single user mode or "mini" mode.

  20. Problem 1: What is the next step which hangs the system?

  22. I suspect the license database was corrupted during the power supply failure,
  23. so I rename the LMF$LICENSE.LDB to another name and them try to boot the 
  24. system, the message shows the license management facility is not started,
  25. login is allowed in OPA0. Then I rename the LMF$LICENSE.LDB back to the
  26. original name. After this step, I can not get the license management facility
  27. to be started any more. It always goes to the single user mode no matter how
  28. I specify the boot flag.

  30. Problem 2: What's wrong? Does re-installing the auth-pak be the only solution
  31.        to recover to the previous state?
