  25. Well, that's because you don't know anything about what you're talking about,
  26. now isn't it?  The numerical part of the name consists of:
  27.  
  28.     The hexadecimal representation of the second and third words of the
  29.     time the message was received;
  30.  
  31.     A four-character hexadecimal code identifying the sort of filename this
  32.     is (the format changed between VMS v4 and VMS v5);
  33.  
  34.     The hexadecimal representation of the high order word of the time the
  35.     message was received.

  37. So the numerical part of the filename (09A8BDA800050096) refers to system time
  38. 009609A8BDA80000 or thereabouts (the low-order word of the system time isn't
  39. used, so the granularity is to about a centisecond), which translates to:
  40. 14-SEP-1992 11:24:44.

  52. understanding of astronomy is purely at the amateur level (or below).  So
  53. unless what I'm saying is directly related to VAX/VMS, don't hold me or my
