- Andrew,
-
- There are two distinct issues raised by your question. The first
- is how are the facilities in OpenVMS for supporting multiple
- languages. The second is: "To what extent do products use these
- facilities?"
-
- The answer to the first question is quite extensive. The volume
- of the possible response is too great for a post, but I can point
- you to two sources of information: the RTL reference manual for
- LIB$ Routines (in the gray wall), and the "DEC Guide to Multinational
- Software" (available from Digital Press). The LIB$ manual
- describes all of the routines which provide the multilingual
- support. The book for Digital Press has some interesting details
- about some of the issues which occur when implementing
- multilingual software.
-
- While I will not guarantee it, I believe that DIGITAL has
- translated most of the error messages and related items into the
- other languages. My recollection is that this does not extend to
- items like command parameters and switches. (I researched this
- about a year ago for a seminar that I was teaching).
-
- I hope that the above information is helpful. If I can be of
- further assistance, please feel free to contact me via Email.
