  37. OK, my qsn was too vague.  I understand the distinction between DO
  38. and ctrl-z effects.  In either case I want to be be in insert mode,
  39. rather than overwrite, at all times.  i.e. when I hit DO and type
  40. a command (w/o hitting return), then realise I've made a mistake, I'd 
  41. like to use the arrow keys and edit the command in INSERT mode.  This
  42. can be done by typing ctrl-A, but I'd like the default to be insert,
  43. so that I don't have to type ctrl-A every time I hit DO (I almost
  44. always want to edit either the current command or use command line
  45.  recall)  In EVE once you do a ctrl-A it stays in effect until you explicitly
  46. change it again.
