- Yes, I did. I did, however, take the trouble of subscribing to the group
- before asking questions of the group. I also took the time to look at threads
- that appeared related to what I was doing, rather than assuming that the way to
- do things was to learn as little as possible about the operating system and
- continually ask questions to which I could've learned the answers by invoking
- the HELP utility.
-
- I was flamed in response to some of my early questions, in which I didn't
- provide nearly enough information for someone to help me. That's as opposed to
- a number of people who've been posting in the last few months who:
- 1) Can't seem to learn to use the HELP command;
- 2) Ask questions of the group without bothering to subscribe;
- 3) Ignore answers;
- 4) Ignore related threads (well, of course they do, since they can't
- be troubled to subscribe to the group);
- 5) Consistently fail to provide enough information for their questions
- to be answered. For example, how do you answer a "question" of the
- form: "Comment on this" where "this" is the output of the command
- "SHOW DEV/FULL SYS$SYSDEVICE"? Now, if the device were in mount
- verification, of had allocation inhibited because of an error on
- the bitmap, the "question" might almost be reasonable. But when the
- disk is apparently healthy, what are we to assume is being asked?

- I beg to differ. A question that's asked several times, verbatim, without the
- person asking the question troubling himself to read the answers he's received
- *IS* dumb.

- Disclaimer: Hey, I understand VAXen and VMS. That's what I get paid for. My
- understanding of astronomy is purely at the amateur level (or below). So
- unless what I'm saying is directly related to VAX/VMS, don't hold me or my
- organization responsible for it. If it IS related to VAX/VMS, you can try to
- hold me responsible for it, but my organization had nothing to do with it.
