- There's no "vs." here. TPU is the VAX Text Processing Utility.
- EVE is an editor written in the TPU language and shipped with VMS
- free of charge. Even the sources are available (look at
- SYS$EXAMPLES:EVE$*.TPU) so you can see what DEC did to build their
- editor and make your own customizations or extensions. For a
- translation of "EVE", look at the first comment in
- SYS$EXAMPLES:EVE$BUILD.TPU (or SYS$LIBRARY:EVESECINI.TPU under VMS
- V4.x):
-
- ! EVE - { Extensible | Easy | Efficient } Vax Editor
-
-
- There are other editors written in TPU, notably LSE, DEC's
- Language Sensitive Editor. However, LSE is NOT free and you don't
- get the sources.
-
- Finally, I'd like to put in a plug for the INFO-TPU list, which
- is gatewayed to vmsnet.tpu: this is a nice, low-volume list to which
- a number of knowledgeable people contribute, including DEC TPU
- developers. If you can't pickup the vmsnet.tpu newsgroup, you can
- subscribe to the INFO_TPU mailing list by sending a one-line mail
- message containing the following:
-
- SUBSCRIBE INFO-TPU Your Actual Name
-
- to LISTSERV@SHSU.BITNET, or to LISTSERV@SHSU.EDU. Please do not
- send subscription requests to the list itself.
-
- Cheers, Ken
