- In that case, you just don't know what the hell you're talking about.

- So how were we to know whether or not you knew that Unix isn't an operating
- system, but is, in fact, an entire suite of mutually incompatible operating
- systems?

-
- WHICH Unix "mv" (not move) command? Under some systems (e.g., System-V), mv
- works like RENAME; under others, it does something similar to (though not the
- same as) what you can get from BACKUP.
-
- Now, we had to guess as to which feature was more important to you:
- 1) Can work across filesystems; or
- 2) Leaves at most ONE file resident on two filesystems if you interrupt
- it in the middle.
- Since some people (other than myself) suggested RENAME, while others suggested
- BACKUP, it's pretty obvious that your question was rather ambiguous.

- Disclaimer: Hey, I understand VAXen and VMS. That's what I get paid for. My
- understanding of astronomy is purely at the amateur level (or below). So
- unless what I'm saying is directly related to VAX/VMS, don't hold me or my
- organization responsible for it. If it IS related to VAX/VMS, you can try to
- hold me responsible for it, but my organization had nothing to do with it.
