- =I got too many replies two anser them all personally, therefore i *did* post
- =a summary.
- =Well then, once again the article I posted one day after my original question:
-
- =I'ld like to thank the following people who responded to my MOVE- question:
- =
- = Roy.Omond@EMBL-Heidelberg.DE (Roy Omond)
- = carl@SOL1.GPS.CALTECH.EDU (Carl J Lydick)
- = GORDON@chmeds.ac.nz (Gordon Findlay)
- = JFL@HOBBES.CCA.CR.ROCKWELL.COM (Joe Lawrence)
- = lbmoore@tchden.org (Louis B. Moore)
- = DWING@UH01.Colorado.Edu (Dan Wing)
- = mueller@avalon.physik.unizh.ch (Eric Mueller)
- = churchwell@vms.ocom.okstate.edu (Kimberly B. Churchwell)
- =and offcourse everybody else who already followed-up/replied a message I haven't
- =received yet.
- =
- =I was in fact looking for a program who would MOVE files (I know RENAME works,
- =but not when I want to move files to another device), but the solution was
- =very simple:
- =
- = MOVE :== "BACKUP/DELETE"
- =
- =does exactly what I was looking for.
-
- And, as Oscar's summary implies, I'm not the only one who didn't know whether
- he was asking us to tell him about RENAME (which has all the features he SAID
- he wanted, but won't move files from one disk to another) or BACKUP/DELETE
- (which does everything he wanted, but which, if interrupted after copying half
- the files requested, won't delete ANY of the files).
-
- Allow me to point out that the System-V "mv" command had the same restriction
- as does the RENAME command (i.e., under System-V, you couldn't mv across
- filesystems.
