- Earlier this year, our company was looking at a network with roughly the
- same requirements you stated. We purchased Lan Server 2.0 and have been
- running fairly successfully on with both DOS and OS/2 requestors. Due to
- hardware constraints, we have to use the server to run applications (like
- WP, ACAD, etc). I am pleased to report that it is remarkably stable, due
- to the robustness of OS/2. I was even developing software using BCC 3.0 for
- a few weeks and only brought the net down once (not really due to BC either).
- For the cost ($800 for the entry level package), we are very pleased. There
- are some quirks that we haven't ironed out yet, but I think they arise from
- bugs in the GA code, not the server itself. I expect the released of 2.1 of
- OS/2 will further stabilize things. It's also really nice to run tape
- backup software while the net is still in use (using Sytos Plus for OS/2)
- as well as modem host programs, etc.
-
- By the way, has Lan Server 3.0 been released?? If so, how much is the upgrade
- and what features does it add. We have the Basic version. (no HPFS386)
