  11. Help!  I just got in three ValuePoint 486SX's, 8MB RAM with
  12. OS/2 pre-loaded.  I've never tried OS2 before, so I thought
  13. I'd see if we could get them set up as Novell network 3.11 
  14. workstations.  I dropped in an SMC card, fired up a VDM (after
  15. playing around a little) and BOOM! - it works like a charm.
  16. Even does TCP/IP, no problem.

  18. However, the whole point of OS2 is multitasking, right?  So, I'll
  19. need to set up this puppy on the desktop.  I pulled out the Novell
  20. manual and my disk set, found OS2 Workstation Services v1.3 Requestor
  21. disk, and tried an install.  The installation program doesn't look
  22. like the manual said it should, but life's like that sometimes.
  23. It says I need to re-boot.  So I do.

  25. BUST!  It gets past the OS2 entry logo, loads the drivers correctly
  26. (I assume - the screen stops when the drivers aren't found, but scrolls
  27. by like a madman when they are, so I really don't know if there are any
  28. other messages) and gives me:

  42. This happens whether I use the SMC card with it's driver or the Thomas
  43. Conrad with the NE2000 generic driver that comes with OS2.  Both cards
  44. have been set at I/O 300 IRQ 3, and I/O 340 IRQ 5, no soap.  I noticed
  45. that the files on the Requestor disk are all stamped 2/92 or before 
  46. i.e. this thing is a pre-2.0 release.

  48. Do I need a newer version of the Requestor?  Novell won't talk to me
  49. for less than $150/hr, and my vendor hasn't gotten back to me yet.
  50. If so, is this thing ftp'able, and from where?  If not, what am I 
  51. screwing up?

  53. I would truly hate to set these machines up as DOS boxes (I have 
  54. religious objections to Windoze - it's a God-forsaken piece of software :)
  55. but I have a tough time justifying 40 MB of HD space for a VDM launcher.
