  19. There are lots of tracks on the tape.  Each pass is formatting a different
  20. track.  Alternate tracks should be being formatted in the reverse direction.
  21. I doubt that the tape is rewinding.  If the software is only formatting each
  22. track in the forward direction, it is poorly written.

  24. The CMS DOS software on Jumbo 120 takes 55 minutes to format a DC2120 tape,
  25. provided it has no bad spots on the tape.  If the software has to make some
  26. blocks as bad, it will take even longer.
