- Hell, I'm not an expert. In fact the PS/Valuepoint with OS/2 just arrived
- today, and I've had 2 hours experience. :-)
-
- I have WC I, and that was the first thing I tried under OS/2 for some
- strange reason.
-
- I was seriously impressed that it worked. And, it came up in a DOS window.
- This really impressed me, except it was awfully hard to play a game in this
- little 320x200 window on my 1024x768 screen. :-)
-
- Anyway, a couple of comments, which will maybe point you in the right
- direction.
-
- Running out of a window was slow for me too (486-33), although actually it
- was a rather nice speed compared to running on a full screen.
-
- On the full screen, the sound worked fairly well, but the whole program is
- just too darned fast on a 486-33, for me to play. And the PS/Valuepoint
- doesn't have a turbo switch.
-
- PC Speaker sound is kind of shakey. It's based on interrupts, and so a
- game program which is relying on the timing of interrupts to play sound is
- going to come out sounding funny.
-
- My suggestion would be to use a full screen DOS window. I can't see how
- your computer could be slower than mine, unless you've only got 4 Megs of
- RAM or something.
-
- Speaking as a non-expert, perhaps if you've got a shortage of RAM you
- should disable the EMS and XMS settings for the DOS session? If I
- understand things correctly, OS/2 will swap out DOS applications, which
- would affect performance quite a bit.
-
- As far as the sound, I guess the only solution would be to get some sort of
- sound board.
-
- Again, I disclaim everything I say. :-)
-
- Well, I got to get back and see if I can't screw up my OS/2 installation...
