  32. I suggest you investigate more fully.  My machine at home is currently
  33. configured as follows (using 2 I/O boards):

  35.     COM1 - IRQ4    Serial Mouse
  36.     COM2 - IRQ3    Modem (16550AFN UART)
  37.     COM3 - IRQ2    Modem (16550AFN UART)
  38.     COM4 - IRQ5    Unused (but I've had a modem there, it works)
  39.     LPT1 - IRQ7    Laser printer
  40.     LPT2 - IRQ5    Unused (once used to link two machines, it works)

  42. Everything works fine.  I not only RECOMMEND doing this; it is the only
  43. way (other than multi-port boards with special drivers) to have more
  44. than 2 usable COM ports that will work at the same time.
