- I've been using OS/2 for a couple of months now and I have yet to experience
- a crash, but what I do get are a lot of hard drive errors.
- If a CHKDSK /F would correct them, I wouldnt be too worried -- but it is
- getting annoying to find files missing and OS/2 deleting its own files to the
- point where OS/2 simply wont boot up. (I end up reinstalling and replacing
- all the lost files)
-
- I recently purchased a new Maxtor HD (and everything works perfectly under DOS)
- But if I install OS/2 and use the Dual Boot, when I come back to OS/2, I find
- allocation errors, files where "access denied" (and these are regular DOS files)
- or files that no longer exist, sector problems, on and on...
-
- Usually if I correct the hard drive errors, delete all the OS/2 directories,
- and re-install OS/2, everything works great until I try something foolish
- such as using Dual Boot.
-
- The HD is currently formatted as FAT. I would like to go to HPFS but I have
- everything in one large partition (660mb or so) and I have heard of problems
- with HPFS & large partitions. Is that true? Should I just stick with FAT?
- I'm willing to format to HPFS if that may correct my problems (and dump
- DOS all together)
-
- My system:
- AMI 386-33 MKII The BIOS chips are old (4/90) I guess IBM didnt take into
- account the people that bought 386s < 1991 because the system locks up
- whenever I use CAP LOCKS or NUM LOCKS (I'm planning to upgrade to 486 in a few
- weeks so I'm not too concerned about that)
- Maxtor 8760s hard drive & WD-7000 FASST2 controller -- I will eventually
- replace this controller -- any recommendations on a SCSI controller?
- 8 megs RAM and all that good stuff
-
- Oh yeah.. OS/2 v2.0 R2000
