  12. Well, thanks to the net and IBM tech support I have made progress. The
  13. success story part goes as follows:

  15. 1) Install Adaptec AHA-1542B SCSI controller and Maxtor 1.5 Gig drive
  16. with no MFM drives enabled. Was advised by the net to stick with the
  17. original 3.10 Adaptec ROM, because OS/2 depends on that version and
  18. breaks if new ROMS are put in.  Install GA version of OS/2. Problems
  19. encountered and successfully resolved (read on for how): 
  20.  
  21.     a) FDISK can only see the first Gig of my SCSI drive. 
  22.  
  23.     b) After the HPFS partition is successfully formatted and 
  24.     I go through all of the installation disks with apparent 
  25.     success, a new problem arises: upon reboot of the system,
  26.     it consistently crashes with a Trap #000d and a dump titled
  27.     "Exception in device driver: AHA154x$"
  28.  
  29. 2) Install the SP on top of the GA that crashes. Problems 1.a and 1.b
  30. resolved!

  33. Remaining open issues:

  35. 3) Since the GA code by itself does not work, I need to make a floppy boot
  36. disk set that contains the GA+SP, FDISK, CHKDSK, and TINYED plus any other
  37. tools needed for disaster recovery. Can anyone tell me how to do this
  38. for GA+SP?

  40. Does anyone have any recommendations for additional disaster-recovery tools?

  42. 4) The GA code would not even format my SCSI drive with my MFM drives 
  43. enabled in ROM bios and powered up. Disabling them in ROM BIOS and 
  44. powering them down fixed that problem. I need to try again to get them
  45. working using the GA+SP code -- but first I need to resolve (3).
  46.  
  47. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Since my news is slow,
  48. I would prefer e-mail. I will post a summary of any interesting
  49. information.
