- I've produced a lot of PostScript this way, and I can tell you, WordPerfect
- generates the worst Postscript I've ever seen. It doesn't conform to the
- page-structuring convention or any other "optional" convention at all.
- But the worst of all, the graphics are really bad. WP generates for example
- a gray square by putting a lot of dots in a square. But in postscript it
- should be easier to just tell the printer: "draw a gray square". You
- probably won't notice this behaviour when you are only printing on a 300dpi
- printer. But if you try a printer with a resolution not equal to an integer part
- of 1200, the result is terrible because wordperfect calculates internally
- everything in 1200 dpi. In fact it doesn't support for example 800dpi or
- 508dpi printers, but the postscript interpreter "smoothes" the incoming 300dpi
- or 600dpi to the desired resolution.
- And, after all, this wouldn't be necessary if it produced really good Postscript
- which is independent of the printer resolution. And WPcorp didn't choose to
- do so.
- But, again, when using a 300dpi printer and not doing such things as
- shuffeling pages or magnifying the output afterwards, you don't see the
- difference.
