- MD> I've a minor problem with two different games which, curiously,
- MD> exhibit the same symptoms under OS/2 - Falcon III and Joe
- MD> Montana Football.
-
- MD> I've got a SoundBlaster installed. It works fine in general with
- MD> these games, except that, periodically, there is a growling
- MD> noise that comes from the games. In Falcon III, I'm guessing
- MD> that this is probably radio messages, and in Joe Montana
- MD> Football, maybe speech really slowed down? All other sounds
- MD> work ok.
-
- MD> Can anyone tell me what's going on here, and perhaps what DOS
- MD> setting will fix this? (I'm running the games in DOS full screen
- MD> mode. I did try setting HW_TIMER to ON in Joe Montana Football
- MD> but that really made OS/2 very unhappy - WPS slowed down and it
- MD> was tough to kill the program).
-
- MD> Thanks for any assistance.

- Don't have either of the games. BUT I do have experience
- with OTHER games with digitized voice effects with the
- Soundblaster and OS/2.
-
- Basically. Older games just won't work. Here are a few
- that DO work with digitized voice effects. They All have
- one characteristic in commen.
-
- REX Nebular
- F15 III
- Amazons
-
- Each of these late model games at install provide you with
- a menu choice of the PORT address, and IRQ your Soundblaster
- is installed with.
-
- It would appear that this can not be done automajically. So
- the game designer gods have had to modify their methods.
-
- Joy. Joy Joy.
-
- From what I've heard there is nothing you can do for the
- digitized voice effects in FALCON. Other than to disable them.
-
- Bottom line. Digitized voice effects work great with Soundblaster
- and OS/2 as long as the software designers don't assume all those
- Soundcards are all sitting on the same port,IRQ addresses!
-
- Hardware here. 486-33 /8meg/Intel 400/Trident 8900C/Soundblaster/170meg
- ConnerIDE/ running OS/2 Ga with the Xr6055 SP and
- Joels 800x600x16 generic SVGA vid drivers.
- Whew. IBM Compatable? eh? whats that?
