  18. JOHN  SOYRING,  Director  of  Software  Development  Programs  for IBM
  19. Personal Software Products  will be IBM Canada's guest  speaker at the
  20. PACIFIC RIM SHOW.

  22. John's  Presentation  will  revolve   around  IBM's  operating  system
  23. products and technology directions. The discussion will focus on IBM's
  24. intention  to produce  and market  the Workplace  family of  operating
  25. systems. This  family will initially  encompass DOS, OS/2  and AIX and
  26. will make  systems easier to connect  and manage, as well  as simplify
  27. application   development.  New   technologies  include   a  new   IBM
  28. Microkernel-based  offering;   a  comprehensive  set   of  distributed
  29. computing  and management  technologies; breakthrough  object-oriented
  30. technology;  a common  desktop user  interface and  much more. The IBM
  31. Workplace  family  operating  systems  of  the  future  will provide a
  32. framework that can innovate and evolve while protecting the investment
  33. in hardware, applications and training. In addition, the importance of
  34. IBM's  relationships with  Apple,  Taligent,  Novell, Lotus  and other
  35. leading companies will be discussed.
