  12. This is to announce the availability of PMView BETA version 0.71a, a
  13. program for displaying BMPs and GIFs under OS/2 2.0 PM. The final
  14. version of PMView will be shareware with a $20 registration fee, but
  15. the BETA versions are freeware. PMView requires OS/2 2.0 since it was
  16. written from the ground up as a 32-bit app. A 256-color screen driver
  17. that supports Palette Manager calls is *strongly* recommended;
  18. examples of such are the XGA and ET4000 SuperVGA drivers from the
  19. recent SPP (CSD level 6055), and the latest 32-bit Trident SVGA
  20. drivers.

  22. I didn't write PMView, so I have no qualms about calling it the
  23. fastest GIF viewer I've ever seen. Since the author, Peter Nielsen,
  24. says he spent "literally hundreds of hours" fine-tuning the GIF
  25. decoding routines in 80486 assembly, I wouldn't be surprised if it's
  26. the fastest GIF viewer on the planet.

  28. PMView BETA version 0.71a is available as pmview.zip on Hobbes in the
  29. pub/uploads directory. I've requested that it eventually be moved to
  30. pub/os2/2.0/graphics.
