- Sometimes you just *have* to have all 4000 items available in the
- list- I have a commercial application for the motor industry, do you
- have _any idea_ how many different parts those guys need to keep tabs
- on? And how many different ways they might try to name the same part?
- So, this app gives them ALL the part names sorted numero- alphabetically
- in a single list, so that they can browse it when necessary - there's
- also a button to allow them to search for a string fragment if they're
- sure it's in there somewhere, but not where they thought.
- It takes a couple of seconds to fill the list box (reading from disk
- with no cache hits), but they don't really notice this, they're
- engineers, not typists, and have generally only got two or three
- characters in the queue by the time the list is displayed, and are
- still looking at the keyboard... :-)
- Over the hols, I'll have to write my own handler, since I'll need to
- be able to cater for at least 10K parts, so I guess that I'm a tad
- disappointed with MS too, but I have to say that the speed of what
- they _have_ supplied is quite impressive, and I'm not known for
- praising Microsoft often.
- If any of you are _really_ wary about writing your own handler, mail
- me sometime in the New Year, and I'll send you my stuff BWO an
- example.

- Dave.
