  19. FORTRAN (FORmula TRANslator) was written specifically for applications
  20. programming of scientific/mathematical tasks.  COBOL (COmmon Business
  21. Oriented Language) was done specifically for programming business
  22. applications.

  24. The fact that they still survive in the face of extreme bias by newbies
  25. that think C is the only "real" language is an indication of how well
  26. they fulfilled (and continue to fulfill) their intended function.
