- : using gcc-1.39 through gcc-2.3.2 under Minix 1.6.1 through 1.6.16 over the
- : last 2 years. It works better than on Suns because the headers are already
- : mostly ANSI conformant. There is an old port of gcc-1.39 or 1.40 in the
- : Minix archives (a complete package with binaries. The old binaries should
- : still work under 1.6.any).
-
- Could you compile 1.5.10 on a 386, using gcc, and still have it run
- or are the 386 patches mandatory in this environment? If so, with
- 386 boards at $170, and RAM at $30/MB, this might be the way to go.
-
- Not that I think MINIX 386 isn't superior to 1.5.10, I just prefer
- the standard, and so far I haven't had a special need for the 386
- enhancements.
