  11. : using gcc-1.39 through gcc-2.3.2 under Minix 1.6.1 through 1.6.16 over the
  12. : last 2 years.  It works better than on Suns because the headers are already
  13. : mostly ANSI conformant.  There is an old port of gcc-1.39 or 1.40 in the
  14. : Minix archives (a complete package with binaries.  The old binaries should
  15. : still work under 1.6.any).

  17. Could you compile 1.5.10 on a 386, using gcc, and still have it run
  18. or are the 386 patches mandatory in this environment?  If so, with
  19. 386 boards at $170, and RAM at $30/MB, this might be the way to go.

  21. Not that I think MINIX 386 isn't superior to 1.5.10, I just prefer
  22. the standard, and so far I haven't had a special need for the 386
  23. enhancements.
