  16. I received email from Wintermute (apologies if I have mis-remembered your
  17. name) that solved my problem.

  19. Apparently, mkfs does not pay attention to the drive's error list.  It was
  20. suggested that I run mkfs -c, which forces a disk scan and creates a bad
  21. block list.  Problem solved.
