  12.    I was wrong, I found CNEWS is disk 8 of SLS4.  Sorry Pete...  Now,
  13. for a few questions.

  15.    The first thing I am trying to do now that I've got A/B/C disks
  16. installed and v.99 running is to get mail up and going.  Then I
  17. figure I'll try news.  I'm having some problems.

  19.    1.  When I installed set B of the disks, I got an error during the
  20. smail install to the effect that it couldn't symlink /usr/bin/smail
  21. to /bin/rmail.  I remembered from my days as a sysadmin that this was
  22. needed for smail to run, so I renamed /bin/rmail to /bin/OLDrmail,
  23. and symlinked smail to rmail.  No sweat.

  25.    2.  When I send mail, either through /bin/mail, or using elm, my
  26. message gets gonked.  Elm and mail think it's fine, but they end up
  27. in the DLO.  If I look at the /usr/spool/smail/log/logfile file, I
  28. find that during the sending of the message, this error happens.

  30.    ..... failed: (ERR_143) transport uux: process killed by signal 11

  32.    Then a message gets sent back to me stating the message failed.
  33.    So, what's happening here?

  35.    3.  No really a smail problem, but my system seems to thing it's
  36. name is softland.mysubdomain.domain.  Now, I figure I can change the
  37. softland part using the hostname command in an RC file, but how do I
  38. change the .mysubdomain.domain stuff to work with my domain stuff
  39. (.rent.com)?

  41.    That seems to be all the problems with SMAIL I've had.  Any
  42. replies (by mail if you would) will be summarized and, if there isn't
  43. one already, I'll set up a sort of FAQ for SMAIL.  I'll do the same
  44. with CNEWS when I take my shot at it later this week.
