- Recently, I have obtained the SLS package from the net. I managed to get
- the system running, but was not able to get the system to work like I
- wish it had. I hope you Linux gurus out there could help me with these
- questions so that I won't have to burn my vacation away too much, figuring
- out the following problems:
- 1) My first partition is a MSDOS partition. Therefore, I like
- Linux to appear like this:
- /dev/hda2 10M /root
- /dev/hda3 10M swap
- /dev/hda4 80M / /usr
-
- However, since the limitation of linux, I can only have a
- primary partition of 64MB size, I tried changing the partition
- to type EXTENDED. Reading the install documentation convince me
- that an extended partition can go up to 1 terabyte. Unfortunately,
- when I do a 'mkfs /dev/hda4 81920', I received an error message
- of something about exceeding the 64M barrier. This may be my
- lack of understanding the concept of extended partition.
- To confuse myself further, I tried to analyze the example shown
- in the README. It shows that it is possible to have a primary
- partition being overlapped by a extended partition with the
- same start and end sector. Is this possible?
-
- 2) LILO - how does this work? I like to be able to boot linux
- entirely from the hard disk. Also, I like be able to choose
- between booting MSDOS and Linux. Do I need a DOS Switcher in
- addition to LILO?
-
- I would appreciate you could send your help via email because I don't get
- access to the net often.
-
- Thanks in advance.
