- I was having the same problem. I was using the binaries from a file
- lpr2.zip (no sources). I then got the file plpsrc01.zip which seems to
- produce a similiar set of binaries but the problem persisted. After
- spending the better part of a day compilng/installing/tracing/debugging
- I found that lpd was dying trying to read the file services in
- /usr/etc/inet (so i quess the network stuff is required to be installed)
- and get a port number for the printer so I added the following line to
- services:
-
- printer 1/tcp
-
- That seem to do the trick, lpd stays running. Now to fiqure out how
- these permissions need to be set! Like I said this worked with the plp
- stuff but since the problem seems to the same try this and see. good
- luck!
