- Hi, bored with DOS and Windows stuff, I was looking for something useful
- and fun to do with my PC (386/33 with 8MB RAM), then I heard about Linux.
-
- So, I ftped to tsx-11.mit.edu and got a copy of SLS, including a, b, c, t and x.
-
- Something went wrong with x stuff, so I just installed Full Base stuff (a, b, c).
-
- I have a few question for you linux experts out there about what to do next.
-
- 1. First, I noticed that Linux has to be booted from bootable floppy disk
- that Linux created during installation. I tried to install LILO and was
- unsuccessful. Could you provide me with more detailed step-by-step instruction
- on how to install it? Instructions in README file was a kind of confusing
- to me.
-
- 2. Secondly, I wanted to create a user. So I fired up "menu" and chose
- Create a New User under System Administration. Turned out that "adduser"
- command was not found. What do I do?
-
- 3. Thrid, I also noticed that most of manual pages were compressed. I found a
- shell script called "doman", which I think is used to uncompress them, and
- played with it but didn't get too far. What do I do to fully uncompress
- all manual pages. Additionally, is there any other stuff that need to be
- uncompressed? If so, how do I do it?
-
- 4. Is there any other I need to do before I install X stuff?
-
-
- I know, I know. I am a complete novice when it comes to Unix and being root user.
- So, please help me out. If any one is interested, I will post the summary for you.
-
- Thanks a million.
