- 1. Some people do have problems with extfs.
- 2. Even if there were no problems with extfs, it is still labelled
- alpha, and not everybody likes to mess with things that are alpha.
- Not everybody has the time it takes to chase around bugs, and
- avoiding alpha versions helps cut down the number of bugs that you
- have to chase anyway.
- 3. Even if everybody used extfs, there are still plenty of people who
- have to transfer files via an MS-DOS system, and there is no need
- to be rude and unpleasant towards those people by forcing them to
- change names every time they want to install a new package.
- 4. Even if we were rude (well, actually we seem to be, but I'll talk
- about that some other time if at all), using filenames that require
- people going via MS-DOS rename things is going to come back and
- haunt us. It isn't _that_ long ago when there was quite a lot of
- people asking what they should do with files that had to be
- renamed. I don't think I've seen even one such question since the
- first version of SLS came out. Make trouble for newbies and they
- will get their revenge by flooding the newsgroup with questions.
