  18. 1. Some people do have problems with extfs.
  19. 2. Even if there were no problems with extfs, it is still labelled
  20.    alpha, and not everybody likes to mess with things that are alpha.
  21.    Not everybody has the time it takes to chase around bugs, and
  22.    avoiding alpha versions helps cut down the number of bugs that you
  23.    have to chase anyway.
  24. 3. Even if everybody used extfs, there are still plenty of people who
  25.    have to transfer files via an MS-DOS system, and there is no need
  26.    to be rude and unpleasant towards those people by forcing them to
  27.    change names every time they want to install a new package.
  28. 4. Even if we were rude (well, actually we seem to be, but I'll talk
  29.    about that some other time if at all), using filenames that require
  30.    people going via MS-DOS rename things is going to come back and
  31.    haunt us.  It isn't _that_ long ago when there was quite a lot of
  32.    people asking what they should do with files that had to be
  33.    renamed.  I don't think I've seen even one such question since the
  34.    first version of SLS came out.  Make trouble for newbies and they
  35.    will get their revenge by flooding the newsgroup with questions.
